SUPER ACTIVITY AUGUST 6th- 11th  The summer activity is going to be a 20 mile round trip hike to Havasupai Falls in the canyons adjacent to the Grand Canyon.

Desert hiking tips

 

Itinerary has changed slightly

·        Monday: 12PM August 6th  Meet at the Stake Center,  Travel to Kingman AZ, Sleep at KOA campground

·        Tuesday: Rise early Hike 10 miles in… Set-up camp, REST

·        Wednesday: Explore Havasupai Falls and Navajo Falls

·        Thursday: Mooney Falls, Beaver Falls, Rope swing and if permits can be acquired hike to the Colorado River

·        Friday: Revisit favorite places, Hike out in the cool in the evening, camp at KOA in Kingman AZ.

·        Saturday: Drive Home

 

A supply of water is at the camp and half way point of the trail going in and out.  Remember this is a desert, and temperatures may reach 100+ degrees.  Where we will be staying it will be cooler.  The water is near 70 degrees and is swim able.  Nightly temps are usually mid 60's.

 

 

BRING:

  • Back pack + Day pack (for day hikes)
  • 1.5 gallons of water
  • Flashlight
  • bug repellent
  • bio-degradable soap (we bathe in the stream)
  • Hat
  • Sun block
  • Food  + trail mix (sample menu at bottom of page)
  • light jacket,
  • goggles for swimming
  • other camping basics (small first aid kit, whistle, camera if desired
  • sleeping gear

 

DO NOT BRING:

  • Cell phone/ pager/ electronic games
  • Tank top (I have a beautiful pink shirt I can trade for it)
  • Music devices, (I am looking for one... maybe a scout has one I can test out until a parent contacts me.)
  • I will confiscate any of these items as they are not to be brought on scout outings.

Crackers with peanutbutter fruit spread (mix remaining fruit and peanutbutter to spread on crackers)

Dinner
Juice/Coco
Tuna and cheese pockets (Mix Bisquick with water. Roll into balls and flatter. Fill with a bit of tuna and cheese. Pinch edges to center to form balls enclosing filling. Bake over stove in covered pot or wrap in foil and place in fire.)
Green beans
